I tried out a new post workout recovery drink today and I HAVE to share the recipe with you!! Its SO good!! Its a Post Workout Chocolate Zucchini Bread Smoothie. I am typically an early morning workout person…. that means I drink water and my pre workout energize drink and then get STRAIGHT to my workout. I don’t eat or anything beforehand. That being said, often times I am HUNGRY in the morning, but don’t eat my first “meal” until a few hours later.
On days like today where I woke up a little hungry, a shake like this was PERFECT!! It had a little more body and volume {are those words okay to describe food?! I know they’re normally hair adjective lol} and made me feel more satisfied.
SO – are you a Zucchini bread person?? Here where I live, in East Tennessee, a lot of people garden and grow vegetables over the summer. Zucchini is one of the more common ones. Its also the one where people end up growing a TON and bringing the excess to work, church functions, etc to try and get rid of it so it actually gets USED!! SO it wasn’t until recently that I had even tried Zucchini bread before. I think its DELISH! I’m still more a pumpkin bread person though. SO if you like that banana bread taste – you’ll love this as a smoothie and you get an extra boost with the hidden veggie too!! A GREAT one for kids so you can sneak in a little more green to their life.
The way that I made this smoothie is using my chocolate protein mix that I use after my workouts…. I use one called Beachbody Performance Recover. I personally use the plant based chocolate flavor. Reminds me of old school Nesquik. Anyways – this adds in a good amount of post workout FUEL (20 g. of protein) to my body with the correct ratio of carbs/protein. Then, I add in almond milk, a 1/2 frozen banana, tsp. of almond butter, cinnamon, and 1 cup chooped RAW zucchini… .Blend that baby up!! You’ll need a good high powered blender to get a nice smooth consistency.
(And if you’re a card-carrying member of the “I Hate Vegetables” Club, don’t worry — you can’t taste the zucchini!)
OK…here’s the recipe!
